The Assegai is the ultimate downhill tire, which was developed by the former downhill world champion Greg Minnaar. He has incorporated all of his many years of experience in racing there. The basic idea was to get the best out of already known Maxxis profiles.
In the middle of the tread, the Minion DHF and Minion DHR II have well-running studs. This gives excellent rolling on hard surfaces, but also grip on wet roots and stones. The HighRoller’s slightly shaped side knobs take care of fast corners. With these you have a clearly defined border area and sufficient reserves at all times. Finally, the shorty adds its profile height and ensures sufficient traction even on deep forest floors. With this intelligent mix you can really let it go.
Wide Trail Casing (WT)
This special carcass construction optimizes the tread layout and the shape of the tires on today’s wider rims. Traditional tires are developed for narrow rims and get too square a shape on wide rims and therefore not exactly optimal performance.
WT tires are optimized for an inner rim width of 35 mm, but work perfectly on all rims with an inner dimension between 30 and 40 mm.
Tubeless ready (TR)
tube tubeless tires have many advantages: You can drive with less air pressure. This gives you better traction and reduces rolling resistance. And where there is no tube , the risk of breakdown also decreases. MAXXIS TR tires are better prepared for mounting with sealing milk than other “tubeless ready” tires. The bead of our TR tires is completely covered with a rubber layer like a real UST tube . As a result, the tube free assembly is successful on all rims with standard dimensions when they are first inflated and with little liquid.
Even “normal” MAXXIS MTB tires can be fitted with sealant like tires from other manufacturers, as the carcass fabric is very tight.
Only the new MAXXIS TR models are officially approved for tubeless assembly and guaranteed by MAXXIS. The tubeless assembly of other models is at your own risk.
Note: We strictly advise against the use of sealing milk containing ammonia. Ammonia has been shown to attack the carcass and, depending on the amount used, can weaken it up to 30% after just a few months.
Double down
Doubledown tires are built like Maxxis downhill tires: two carcass plies reinforced with a butyl insert in the side wall. Due to the two 120 TPI (instead of 60TPI) carcass plies and aramid bead, they are significantly lighter than downhill tires, significantly more stable and robust than TR + EXO tires and therefore ideal for tough enduro courses.
3C MaxxGrip
The well-known 3C downhill mix, which many of the best downhillers have trusted for years, is now called 3C MaxxGrip. 3C MaxxGrip offers the ultimate grip and the best cushioning properties for incomparable traction during downhills.
